I was just testing out all the functions it had to see how it worked and what it could do.īased on your post you cannot call me the arrogant one. I also don't know what lengths you had to go to just to make it not look painted.Īnd when I tried the program myself, I wasn't trying to create some great piece of art.

Any number of art programs could create that just as well, so it does nothing to show the merits of Artrage. The image you showed actually did not look painted which is interesting, but it's far too simple to use as a good example. I also own Sketchbook, and that's the baseline I was trying to beat out.

WHERE DID THE TRANSFORM TOOL GO ARTRAGE 5 PRO

I was just looking for an alternative actually made specifically for digital art creation, because I'm getting tired of Photoshop's bloated garbage UI, and it's been very buggy on my Surface Pro due to due to dated coding methods. On top of which, I could not find literally one single image that did NOT look hand painted, which is not something you often want from game art assets. I searched thoroughly for art made with this over Google Images, Deviant Art and even Youtube, and not one piece of work I found could compare to the AVERAGE art piece made even with something as cheap as Sketchbook. You're the one being arrogant, assuming that I haven't actually looked for good art made with this, that I can't draw or that I'm just looking for a cheap alternative to Photoshop.

My advice, either REALLY look it up and also obviously strengthen your skills with the software or just use something more artificial like GIMP or something as that is what it seems like you want anyway, if you're looking for a cheap version of Photoshop this is not it, this in my eyes is better in so many ways, of course Photoshop has its uses as I own and use both but I prefer this for concept work and texturing if the texturing task at hand requires a hand painted style which is ever more popular these days so I've been lucky on that front! My sample isn't perfect but its proof that you can create some decent game model textures in Art Rage 4. Just because on a quick browse of what people have made you didn't find the work that you see in your favourite MMO or game of the year doesn't mena that you can say that even pro artists churn out crap from using this application, from your post you come across as quite ignorant, and this isn't me attacking you, I honestly hope that you do not believe half of that crap you posted there. Its not my best work and I am trying to replicate the disney style in my texturing and modelling skills but my personal stuff is a lot more detailed on the higher end of the hand painted texture stuff and you can get as good textures as you're capable of creating. This is a quick sample of my me playing around with making textures for game ready moels in Art Rage 4 here on Steam:

It has not sacrificed anything from what I can see, again you just need to learn how to use it, you can't just instantly be a pro with something from messing aorund in a trial for a few mins. I disagree with most of what you have said here if not all of it. You just need to learn how to use the application and the brushes that come with it or you need to read through the doucmentation on all the brush setting to get the brushes right for what you need, I have probably created a nice handful of textures whilst using this software. The most realistic high end application I can think of is Corel Painter, you can easily use this for textures in video games. Go and ACTUALLY look and you will see some pretty great stuff coming from people using this, and the typical digital art application isn't realistic at all sadly. I don' t think you have looked through work created with this properly. I even tried a demo myself, and all this seemed to be confirmed it sacrifices raw function just to simulate real painting.

On top of which, it should have a very narrow market.īut this seems to be a fairly highly rated program, and it's here on Steam for developers. While I can see the value in that for some people, that would logically destroy all value as a game development tool.

WHERE DID THE TRANSFORM TOOL GO ARTRAGE 5 PROFESSIONAL

Typical digital art programs leverage very powerful functions not possible with real painting, which allow even someone of moderate skill to create a beautiful piece of work better than professional paintings. The problem seems to be that it sacrifices all the function and versatility you get from traditional digital art programs for the sole purpose of making everything look like it was painted on a real canvas with real brushes, instead of being digital art. Problem is, every piece of work I've been able to find that someone made with this program looks terrible. That's the whole reason this is here on Steam for game development.
